MSc , Maritime Transportation , 2005 — 2007
I developed a computer 3D model of a riverbed in Uruguay using GIS software merging satellite and local bathymetrical data in order to determine the best dimensions for a bulk carrier intended to operate on the river. Using international recommendations for navigational channels, I digitally proposed a channel based on the river topography and the ship desired size while maximizing cargo carrying capacity.
Japanese language 2004 — 2004
2 semesters of intensive Japanese language classes at the Ryugakusei Center in Kobe University.
Maritime Education for Navigation 2002 — 2002
Technical course focused mainly on maritime education for navigation in a Japanese marine technical college. The syllabus included ship handling simulator and tanker loading simulator training, advanced fire fighting training, a week sailing on a Japanese training ship as well as several theoretical subjects in navigation, weather routing, seamanship and port operations. My final paper was on the impact of the -then- newly implemented ISM Code on the ship's officers workload while getting used to it, its effects when considered together with insufficient manning and fatigue and the suggestion of IT tools to help to better cope with the implementation. I also criticized based on the tanker Prestige accident that year in Spanish waters.
